As all the subjects you study in your first year are tested, you need to take meticulous and detailed notes in your first year of law studies. Moreover, to ensure you use your time in the final months of your study preparing for bar exam, take your MPRE either during 2L or early on in your 3L year. Indeed, do not postpone taking any other tests till the end of your studies including for such courses as Law Responsibility (Law 312).

Your quest to join the state bar may be hindered by untimely application for Moral Character certification. Remember that you must submit your request by the end of January 2014 at the latest. It is considered polite and fair to talk first to your law school faculty or librarian whom you would like to indicate as a referee in your application.

If you are taking the exams scheduled for February 2104, you application must be complete and submitted by November 1, 2013. By completing and sending your application in time, you will be guaranteed of a testing center of your choice as the place where you will take your exams. If you plan to have your laptop during the exam period, you must have it certified in time too.

For the best guarantee of success, spend at least the last six months of the period leading up to the exam studying for 8 hours daily, at least five days every week. To preempt any unnecessary distractions, put off all big plans such as travelling or moving in the meantime. Moreover, do not be tempted to waste your time in such activities as analysis of likely pass rates or trying to predict what questions are likely to be asked next year.

It is only natural to feel as if you have not prepared adequately as the day of the exams approaches, no matter how many long hours you have put to your studies. However, do not succumb to the temptation of staying up late trying to take in as much information as possible. Indeed, the best way to prepare your mind and body for the big day is to take a nice meal followed by a complete night's rest.

On the morning of the exam, remember to carry with you valid photo identification, your State Bar admission information as well as all the necessary pieces of stationery including pencils, erasers and highlighters. If you will be using a laptop PC in the exam, you should make sure it has a fully charged battery and bring along all the cables. If you carry a digital or analog clock to time yourself, make sure it is silent.
