Top Qualities Of Authentic Patient Advocacy Groups

By Leanne Goff

Patient advocacy groups are known to promote good quality health care among many other things. In fact, the number of these associations has been on the rise, just to campaign for the rights of citizens. On the other hand, it is important to appreciate that not all the groups are worth joining, as they do not have equal capacity. You have to evaluate the movements carefully before you join.

Authentic movements ought to do more than accepting that there are problems relating to healthcare. They should take the mantle on their hands to ensure that the general public is aware of the issues affecting healthcare. Some individuals have not had their health care rights violated. They may not understand the issues therein, unless serious sensitization is done. Such people come to terms with this reality when it is too late to assist.

On the other hand, fake associations will never declare that there are problems with the health care systems. Even when it is so clear that these vices are common within the society, they will never stand up and fight against them. The government is doing little if anything to stop these vices. If any association is serious with their work, they have to sensitize the people for them to have a clarion call on ending the infringements.

Genuine associations will want to make new members or aggrieved patients feel comfortable. They will give a listening ear to all one has to say, whether it was in the past or it is still happening. Thereafter, they should back up your story with what should have taken place as the health care provisions demand. The association should have people who can elucidate the provisions to its members to make them understand.

In fact, a good number of the sham organizations will give you very ridiculous comments. For instance, some of the movements are known to tell of aggrieved members as being excessively emotional. Further still, some of them will want to intimidate you by claiming that you are illiterate to the provisions of health care. The right thing to do is to keep away from such associations.

One direct way to tell a fake institution is when they allow health care providers as part of their membership. It is similar to a case where you find the head of a criminal gang that robbed you as part of the panel of judges listening to your petition. From the word go, the hearing will be biased. In fact, the petitioner will not feel at ease expressing themselves in that situation.

Cases have been raised where support organizations always refer complainants back to the defaulting agencies. This is not a bad idea if the person had not complained to the management of those institutions. However, if the person were categorical that the top brass of the agency was not willing to help, it would be unkind to still recommend them to go back. Such a movement is obviously incompetent.

You should not be where you are not comfortable. The best patient advocacy groups will advise you to get in touch with relevant lawyers. Therefore, take time to choose the right institution.
