In short, it protects individual rights. On the other hand, crimes have basic elements. These are the guilty act and the guilty mind.

Basically, the guilty act is a crime. People violating the government laws will be punished according to a governed law. The guilty mind is more about the mental state of the accused when they have committed a crime. Additionally, every offense has also its definition. For individuals found guilty, the actions that will be considered must be suitable to the definition of each crime committed.

If found guilty with any types of crimes, the court will usually issue a sentence during the criminal trial. A sentence is a certain punishment to any person who are accused of committing a crime and if found guilty. There are actually different types of sentences.
