The death of an individual is probably one of the saddest news that we can hear. Sad as it may seem, such emotional event has to be documented. In the state of Florida, this documentation is in the form of a certificate. The said office is responsible for keeping such files and other public documents. If going there is not possible, one can check with the local county and see what they can do for you.
