The state of Missouri is one of the many states that have implemented the Freedom of Information Act. This act mandates the local government to allow its residents to access any of their personal documents. One of the documents they can access is the Missouri Divorce records.

The retrieval of a divorce certificate in the state of Missouri is done for a number of reasons. Those who want to make sure that they are dating an unmarried or a legally separated individual may look into the other person's divorce file. From there, one would be able to determine that marital status of the person they are dating. One cannot find details about why the couple decided to separate on a public document. Copies of a divorce record in the state of Missouri are not available at the states Department of Health. One can only get a copy of the said file at the county where the divorce was filed. It can be requested at the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court at the county of separation. The office of the state's Department of Health can still help you identify the county where you can request the document. It cost only $15 to verify such information. A separate processing fee has to be paid when requesting it at the county office and this can vary per county. Only the divorcees and their immediate family are allowed to request for a copy of a divorce certificate. One will be asked to provide their contact details in order to process the request. Also, the requesting individual has to state their reason for requesting such document as well as their relationship with the divorcee.

The state recommends to personally requesting the document at the county office. However if the county is not known, one has to seek help from the office of the Department of Health first. The county office and the state office accepts mail request. If you choose to request the document via mail, all of the required documents and information has to be in the mail order as well as the payment. This can save you the hassle and delay in the request. It can take a few days before the result can be obtained.
