The pressures of modern living have been one of the main contributing factors to the fact that an increasing number of people struggle to cope from day to day. In some extreme cases a court may order a person to be forcibly restrained in a treatment facility, but then it is almost always done to protect innocent bystanders.

Therapy cannot succeed unless the patient has absolute trust in the therapist. If this is not the case the patient should be referred to another therapist. Personalities do clash and it is not unnatural for two individuals to fail to establish a close relationship. That is why most experienced therapists will quickly identify such difficulties and advise the patient to see another professional.

Many people suffering from psychological disorders do so unnecessarily. They can be helped, but they need to recognize the fact that they need help and they must be determined to change. Psychological therapy has helped numerous people to overcome a wide variety of debilitating psychological conditions.
