Why Childhood Trauma Therapy Is Necessary

By Richard Adams

Kids will need to open up and express themselves just as much as adults do. There are children who will have problems relating to a divorce or separation that parents recently went through. Sometimes, it can be a little stress at school. However, when they don't talk about the serious issues, childhood trauma therapy is necessary.

There are certain signs to take note of. They are not always easy to see because sometimes they are more subtle. Sometimes, kids do a good job at hiding at what they are feeling. This even happens when parents or teachers ask them whether there is a problem. It could actually be a problem in the home environment which makes it worse.

However, as soon as a child does confide in someone, they need to take this seriously. There are also certain signs which a parent or a teacher can take note of. These are brought on suddenly. They may become anxious or depressed. The anxiety or depression is different to that of an adult. They will become moody and angry. A young child may throw tantrums. They will want to spend time away from family and friends.

They will go through an array of moods. Unfortunately, many parents seem to think that this is a stage. Of course, there are kids that go through a number of stages, especially during the two year old phase when they are developing. However, one can tell that this is a little different and the child does not become happy for much of the time.

For example, when parents get divorced and kids were never given any support, the child will often grow up thinking that this is their fault. They will grow up with shameful emotions and this will also affect their adult life. As an adult, they will also have relationship issues. They may have problems in their professional life. They can develop addictions and they can develop problems with their self esteem.

The youngster won't want to open up again. It will be something that they will have to live with for the rest of their lives. Of course, these days there are teachers who know the signs since they have been trained. They will know that youngsters prefer to stay inside while all other kids are outside having a good time. They will withdraw and isolate themselves from others.

Their mood will usually be downcast and often they will become sad, while there are kids who may become angry or aggressive. If this moody behaviour is brought on suddenly, it is important that the teacher takes action. In most cases, he or she will confront them. But they will do this in a subtle way. There are also child psychologists at the school who can help in many ways.

For example, a young child is going to be best off in play therapy than they would with a child psychologist where they would have to do a lot of talking. Younger kids are better at being more creative. This will tell the therapist what they are feeling and more about what is going on in their mind.
