Information One Ought To Know Regarding Nursing Home Abuse Cases

By Janeth Smith

It is alarming at the rate which nursing home abuse cases are raising. Such occurrences have had reports of the old persons being abused sexually or physically and in other cases they are not given food. These uncouth behaviors are conducted by the facility employees. Media has been able to cover laws that are supposed to assist in stopping this extensively.

In Canada senior people facilities are occupied to the fullest. Such occurrences which have been filed are not usually isolated or random. The claims are not few but very many in hundreds and they do not take place in particular facilities but incidents are all over the nation. This begs the question about people morality levels and respect to the elderly.

Family members who secretly set up recorders to record the treatment given to their loved ones by caregivers are in for a huge shock because they witness unspeakable acts of cruelty. These may include being physically abused by being beaten, or being taunted and being spoken to in unbecoming language.

There is a classical act lawsuit that was put in place in the year 2003 against the homes which is found in Quebec and it was later completed in the year 2013. There was a very big settlement for the affected families and although their elderly were already dead, they were given seven million dollars as a reward to share among themselves. The settlement helped them to manage their situations and be able to move on with their lives.

Since then, mistreatment occurrences have been on the rise and lawsuits have occurred more frequently. If one witnesses mistreat of their loved one in a senior care facility, they should first report it to the facility director. If no action is taken, one can take up the issue with the ministry of health. People have even gone to the press with evidence of mistreat to get some action taken.

A case which has gone to the press was one for Camille, the care givers was seen on tape molesting the elderly lady. They were seen mocking and waving dirty sheets on her face. The hospital administration did not handle the situation appropriately. The son involved the local press and a case was filed in a court of law.

Nursing home abuse occurrences should not be tolerated at all. The right action should be taken to stop employees who take advantage of the helpless. States should formulate bills which seek to protect the elderly in such facilities. These bad engagements should be terminated at all cost as a healing process to the society, since this portrays decay in morality levels.
