Complaints That Led To The Issue About Ashford Settlement

By Joanna Walsh

Settling financial matters in court has never been an easy endeavor. There are a lot of issues that have to be tackled and series of investigations that has to be conducted. Both sides that are involved in a case has to provide detailed account of anything that will help them settle the matter during a trial.

For companies and institutions, undergoing a formal trial is not good. It does not only take time and money. It can also mean bad publicity especially if the issue filed is against them. This is where agremeent prior to a formal trial like the Ashford settlement happens. Instead of bringing the school to the spotlight of the criticisms filed against it, the administration deemed it better to pay the amount agreed.

The settlement of the money that Ashford agreed to pay for the complainants is an amount of 7.25 million U. S. Dollars. This in response to the issues thrown at them that has something to do with their misleading recruiters who encourage interested persons to enroll on online courses. For the school, paying the amount is better than dragging the name of their institution to more unwanted spotlight.

The major issue behind this case is the alleged misleading recruitment process done by the school to those who are interested to get online classes. The students are led to believe that what they are paying for will allow them to get the necessary licenses and accreditation that will enable them to teach on different schools. It did not.

Sooner than later did they find out that this is hardly the case. Licenses are not immediately given. Additional courses and tests will have to be performed first. Of course, this meant more expenses on the part of those who expected their student years to be over. One of the striking complaints is the fact that the school was never specific on this matter. There was not any mention of any additional tests and the like.

It all started as a minor case of misunderstanding. But as more students file complaints of thier dissatisfaction and feeling that the school somehow lied to them, the case grew stronger. Soon, Ashford had to address it formally. Otherwise, a formal trial will have to be conducted, which means series of investigations.

Of course, Ashford remained firm on its conviction that they have always been committed to students success and will continue as such. It has also been a part of the settlement that they make some changes on some of their practices nationwide. With these agreement, there is no need to go to formal trial that may drag for a long time.

The money that is paid by the institution will go to the students who have enrolled on the online class. If you are Iowans who has been on the program, you might be able to get a refund. Even if you have not filed a complaint, if you are eligible, a point person will be contacting you for the details.

Soon after the settlement has been enacted, there was not much issue about the arrangements. Of course, this did not mean that everything has already died down. There are those, especially, people who have not yet received their refunds who are still concerned about its efficacy. If you are one of those who have not yet received anything, contact the people in charge and see what are the needed information that will help you be eligible.
